Time Management Tips for Those Involved in Small Business
As a small business owner, you probably wear many hats. Being productive and having good time management is the best way to get the most done. If you struggle with time management, you’re not alone. Many people do. Get a handle on your time with these tips.
Know Where Your Time Goes
Perform a time audit. You can’t change what you don’t know. For one week, track your time. Get out the reports at the end of the week and look at where you’re spending your time. Then, you can tackle specific issues. Maybe you are spending too much time on social media, but you might be spending more time in unproductive meetings.
Schedule Tasks to a Set Time Limit
Block out your time during the day as to how you want to use it. Give yourself a deadline to handle invoicing, say 60 minutes. Make it game to see how much you can get done. If you finish early, good job. If you can’t get everything done, maybe you need to allow yourself more time. The problem might not be good time management but overscheduling yourself.
Have a Plan for Each Day
Know what activities are a priority each day. If you’re working on a project that is due on Friday, make sure to allow plenty of time early in the week to work on it. If you need to get your tax information to the CPA by the 10th, schedule time to work on it before its due. A good way to get started is to write down a couple of important things for tomorrow when you leave work for the day. Then, in the morning when you come in, make a to-do list of the top things that have to get done. Hopefully, the lists overlap.
