Productivity is one of those buzz-words that seems on trend, but there’s a good reason for that. When you maximize your time, you accomplish much more. What are you wasting time on and how can you be more productive? Here are four things that might be wasting your time.

Multitasking

Although multitasking can feel like productivity, it’s actually a time suck where you get distracted easily between goals. You’ll be more productive when you focus on one task at a time, then move on to the next one. Schedule your day, including email breaks and time to work on social media rather than moving back and forth between separate tasks.

Things that Aren’t Important to You

You should focus your day on your own goals and objectives. Don’t waste time with other people’s agendas. It might be hard to tell your best friend, “no, you can’t go out with them on Friday night,” but if you have an early Saturday project that you need to be alert for, you need to do what’s best for you.

Your Appearance

How much time do you spend worrying about how you look and how you’re perceived? This might be a problem that more women suffer from, but it can really hurt your productivity. You should look put together for a business setting. But don’t stress over a broken nail or hair out of place.
 

Relationships Without Boundaries

How many times do your friends message you and expect an immediate answer when you’re working? It might be time to rethink your availability. As with multitasking, texts and IMs can take your focus away from your work. It takes time to refocus on your project. Teach your friends and family that you can’t be available 24/7 (unless it’s your kids) and give them boundaries for your time.
